Southwest Hunter Mountain is a subpeak of Hunter Mountain in New York’s Catskills that is widely regarded as one of the region’s High Peaks because it stands distinctly apart from the main summit. Part of the Devil’s Path range, it rises above Diamond Notch within the Hudson River watershed and is covered in dense boreal forest of red spruce and balsam fir. With no official trail to the top, it is known as a bushwhack peak, and hikers often use an old 19th-century logging railroad grade and a faint herd path to reach its summit canister. The peak also remains officially unnamed in federal records, despite efforts to call it Leavitt Peak.
