Turret Peak is a high mountain in the Needle Mountains, a range within the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. It rises in the Weminuche Wilderness of San Juan National Forest, east of the Animas River and just southeast of Pigeon Peak. Ranked as Colorado’s 89th highest independent peak, it stands among the state’s more prominent high mountains. Its environment is distinctly alpine, classified under the Köppen system as an alpine subarctic climate, with cold, snowy winters, cool to warm summers, year-round precipitation, winter snowfall, summer thunderstorms, and a drier period in late spring.
