In the last part of the 19th century, Brookings Lumber Company used a two-wheel logger at this location to harvest timber. Pulled by oxen, the seven-foot-tall wheels straddled large pine logs and lifted one end as the logs were dragged to waiting steam locomotive engines, which carried them to Brooking's mill at Fredalba near Smiley Park. There the logs were cut into building lumber for constructing homes and businesses in San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties.
