Ruth Mountain is a 7,115-foot summit in Washington’s North Cascades, about two miles south of Hannegan Pass, on the boundary of North Cascades National Park and the Mount Baker Wilderness in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Named for Ruth Cleveland, daughter of President Grover Cleveland, it received its official name in 1952. The peak is a remnant of the extinct Hannegan Caldera, and its landscape reflects mountain building, uplift, faulting, and glaciation. Its summit overlooks nearby peaks and ranges, while the melting Ruth Glacier feeds the Chilliwack River and other drainage reaches the Nooksack and Baker systems. Heavy maritime snowfall and unstable snowpack make avalanches a significant hazard.
