The First Church of Christ Congregational property was built in 1837 by the Methodist Episcopal Society of Redding. Its building committee consisted of Thomas B. Fanton, John Read Hill, Gershom Sherwood, Jesse Banks, and David Duncomb. It served the Methodist Society until 1921 and then a Federation of Methodist and Congregational Societies until 1959, when the remaining Methodists gave the property to the First Church of Christ Congregational.
