Granite Canyon in Grand Teton National Park is a broad U-shaped valley formed about 15,000 years ago as glaciers retreated at the end of the Last Glacial Maximum. Between Rendezvous Mountain and Mount Hunt in northwestern Wyoming, it stands out from narrower river-cut canyons because of its glacial origin. The canyon is also one of the Tetons' best-known hiking destinations, with routes to Marion Lake and a popular descent from Rendezvous Mountain back to Teton Village. Near its entrance, the Upper Granite Canyon Patrol Cabin, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998, adds a human historical element to this ice-shaped landscape.
