North Star Mountain is a 13,614-foot peak on Colorado’s Continental Divide in the Mosquito Range, west of Hoosier Pass and south-southwest of Breckenridge. Ranked the state’s 187th-highest summit, it stands out for its steep local relief, rising sharply above the headwaters of the Middle Fork South Platte River on the south and Monte Cristo Creek and the Blue River on the north. The mountain has an alpine subarctic climate with snowy winters, cool to warm summers, and frequent summer thunderstorms. Known in print by at least 1884, it remains a prominent Colorado thirteener and a notable high point along the divide.
