Mount Lincoln is a 14,291-foot peak in Colorado’s Mosquito Range and the highest summit in the range, in Park County, and in the Missouri River drainage basin. Ranked among Colorado’s tallest fourteeners and among the highest summits in the contiguous United States, it was named for Abraham Lincoln. The mountain rises in a landscape shaped by both mining and climbing: silver discovered here in 1874 left Mount Lincoln and nearby peaks heavily scarred by old workings, while modern hikers often ascend from Kite Lake on relatively accessible class 2 routes. Access was restricted in 2005 over liability concerns before an agreement helped reopen the area in 2006.
