C. A. Smith and Sons Building
History
7
Built in 1895 for A.J. Hunt, the building operated as a saloon until prohibition closed its doors in 1898. Charles A. Smith purchased it in 1910, and it remained in the Smith and Sons Estate until 1968. The great-great-grandson of C.A. Smith acquired ownership in 1979. Drug stores occupied the building for over 62 years, beginning with the first one operated by the Board brothers in 1898. Three longtime Mansfield physicians, Dr. Harry Nifong, Dr. J.N. Thomas, and Dr. Raymond Thomas, had offices in the rear of the building.
