The wagon top boiler was a common type of steam boiler used in the 1880s. It took its name from its flat-bottomed barrel, which was originally mounted on a wagon. A high dome mounted over the rectangular firebox provided the driest steam possible, decreasing the washing off of necessary lubricants. Built for the Dixiana, this boiler was turned out in 1912 by Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio, operated on many short lines in Tennessee and Virginia, came to Roaring Camp in 1964, and was retired in 1976.
