Joe Devel Peak is a prominent 13,327-foot summit in Sequoia National Park in California's Sierra Nevada, just west of the range crest and south of Mount Whitney. At 4,062 meters, it ranks as California's 88th-highest summit and the southernmost 4,000-meter peak in the contiguous United States. Its steep southwest face rises sharply above Rock Creek, and runoff from the mountain flows west toward the Kern River. The peak was named for Joseph Devel of the Wheeler Survey, who made its first recorded ascent on September 20, 1875. Owen L. Williams proposed the name in 1937, and it was later officially adopted.
