Among the earliest settlers of this area were J.E. and Mary Jane Blevins and their children, who arrived in 1902 and soon helped organize a community school, post office, and church, donating land for each as well as for a community cemetery. Quail Cemetery was created in 1904 shortly after the death of the Blevins' infant son, and the grieving parents donated land for the cemetery, where their son became the first person buried. There was no fence around the burial ground, and townspeople chose grave sites for members of their families. Although most graves are marked, some have plain stones, and some are unmarked. Many of those buried are infants and young children, reflecting the hardships of life and rudimentary medical care in early Collingsworth County. Pioneers buried there include J.E. Blevins, Mary Jane Blevins, Lydia Rose Atkinson, W.M. Barton, Lee Jeffres, W.I. Atkinson, and J.A. White.
