University Peak rises on the Sierra Nevada crest in California between Mount Gould and Mount Bradley, straddling the Tulare-Inyo county line. Its western side lies in Kings Canyon National Park, while its eastern face is in the John Muir Wilderness. Named for the University of California, it is a thirteener accessible most easily from the Onion Valley trailhead by an off-trail hike up the south slopes. In addition to that least technical route, the mountain offers climbs ranging from simple scrambles to rock climbing, a variety that helped place it on the Sierra Club Sierra Peaks Section’s Mountaineers Peaks list.
