Roche de Smet is a 2,539-metre mountain in Alberta’s Jasper National Park, rising in the Athabasca River valley as part of the De Smet Range in the Canadian Rockies. Its summit was named in 1896 for Pierre-Jean De Smet. The mountain lies in a subarctic climate marked by cold, snowy winters and mild summers. Temperatures can drop below -20 °C, and wind chill can fall below -30 °C. Water running off its slopes drains into tributaries of the Athabasca River, linking the peak closely to the surrounding river system.
