Gargoyle Mountain is a 2,693-metre summit in Jasper National Park in Alberta’s Canadian Rockies, standing north of Jasper as a prominent landmark in the Athabasca Valley visible from Highway 16 and the Canadian National Railway’s transcontinental line. Dominion Land Surveyor Morrison P. Bridgland named it in 1916 after a stream that heads at the mountain like a gargoyle or spout, and the Geographical Names Board of Canada officially adopted the name in 1956. Its nearest higher neighbour is Cliff Mountain to the west. The mountain lies in a subarctic climate, with runoff draining into the Athabasca River and climbing generally best from June through September.
