Fenway Park opened in 1912 as the largest ballpark in the major leagues. Home of the Boston Red Sox, it is the nation's oldest operating major league baseball venue and a rare survivor of the "Golden Age" of baseball parks (1909-1923). Now the smallest major league park, its intimate setting and the proximity of its seats to the playing field are prized by fans. Among the great Red Sox who played there are Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, and Carl Yastrzemski. It has hosted multiple Red Sox World Series, including the 2004 World Series championship, the Red Sox's first since 1918.
