John Scott Farm near Shandon, Ohio, was established by the early nineteenth century and remained in operation into the twenty-first, preserving a rare cluster of traditional farm buildings with few later alterations. The farm existed by 1829, when Murat Halstead was born there, and later took the name of his brother-in-law, John Scott, as it passed through related families. After periods of stock raising, abandonment, and revival as a dairy farm with Jersey cattle, its historic core came to include an 1875 granary, an 1884 barn, and a 1915 milkhouse above Paddy’s Run. The property also includes a family cemetery and an archaeological site.
