Renton’s main historical institution preserves and makes accessible the history of greater Renton, Washington, through extensive collections, exhibits, programs, and a public research library. Housed in a 1942 Art Deco former fire station, the last surviving Renton building constructed under the Works Progress Administration, it holds more than 90,000 objects and 13,000 photographs covering all periods of the city’s past. Especially significant are images from 1880 to 1940 that capture coal mining, railroads, civic life, and social life. Supported by the City of Renton and the Renton Historical Society, it connects local work, community, and changing industries to the present.
