The Museum of Flight in Tukwila, near Seattle’s Boeing Field, grew from a 1965 effort to recover and restore a 1929 Boeing 80A-1 into one of the world’s largest private air and space museums. A major milestone came with the move and restoration of the 1909 William E. Boeing Red Barn, followed by the opening of the T.A. Wilson Great Gallery in 1987 and later additions focused on space and military aviation. Its collection spans more than 150 aircraft, including landmark Boeing, Concorde, presidential, and Space Shuttle training artifacts, while its educational programs, restoration work, library, and archives make it a major regional cultural and research center.
