Suiattle Glacier lies in Washington’s Glacier Peak Wilderness within Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, near Honeycomb and White River glaciers and separated from them in part by an arête off the Kololo Peaks. It preserves a clear record of modern retreat since the end of the Little Ice Age. From about 1850 to 1924, it lost roughly 1,400 meters in length, then retreated another 900 meters by 1940. A cooler, wetter period from 1967 to 1979 brought a brief advance of about 20 meters, but retreat resumed, with another 270 meters lost by 2009. Its changing margins visibly reflect the long-term shrinkage of North Cascades mountain glaciers.
