Nature
Balsam Cap is a mountain in Ulster County, New York, in the Catskill Mountains and within the Slide Mountain Wilderness of Catskill State Park. Near Friday Mountain and Rocky Mountain, it is notable for dividing runoff among three major drainage systems. Its northeast and southeast slopes drain through Maltby Hollow Brook to Bush Kill, the Ashokan Reservoir, Esopus Creek, and the Hudson River on the way to New York Bay. Its southwest side feeds the headwaters of Rondout Creek, which also reaches the Hudson, while its northwest side drains to the East Branch of the Neversink River and ultimately to the Delaware River and Delaware Bay.
