Nuyaka Mission was founded in 1882 by the Presbyterian Board and the Creek Nation through the work of Alice Robertson, who later became the first woman elected to Congress from the state. Augusta Robertson Moore was the first superintendent of the mission school. Nearby Nuyaka town was the seat of the Loyal Creek faction in the Green Peach War led by Isparhecker, later chief of the Creek Nation.
