The Mansfield Bell of Freedom is a bell made by Meneely and Company of West Troy, N.Y., in 1889. It weighs approximately 1,000 pounds and stands three feet tall and three feet wide at the base. The Methodist Episcopal Church was established in 1876, changed its name to Mansfield United Methodist Church in 1968, and again in 2004 to Faith Fellowship United Methodist Church to serve the greater Mansfield area. After the church sold its building in the spring of 2017, Pastor David A. Arruda, a US Army veteran, was approached by Mansfield Veterans Services and the Mansfield Historical Society about obtaining the church bell for historical purposes in creating a veterans memorial. Arruda consulted with the church community, which agreed that using the bell would be a fine tribute to honor those who served the country.
