Borderland State Park preserves the former estate created beginning in 1906 by Harvard botanist Oakes Ames and his wife, artist and feminist Blanche Ames Ames, on the Easton-Sharon border in Massachusetts. Centered on the 1910 stone Ames Mansion, the property was designed as a private country place with woodlands, roads, paths, ponds, and Blanche Ames’s studio, and the house still retains much of its original furnishings and her paintings. Sold to the Commonwealth in 1971 and made a state park in 1973, it combines historic landscape and recreation, with trails, ponds, quarry access, mansion tours, and a setting later used in sports and film.
