William Bull of Sheldon, born in 1683, was the son of Stephen Bull, the immigrant. He served in the Colonial House of Commons from 1706 to 1719, was colonel of the Berkeley County Regiment during the Tuscarora and Yemassee Wars, became one of the Lord's Proprietors Deputy in 1719, and was a member and president of the council from 1721 to 1737. He assisted in laying out Savannah in 1733, served as lieutenant governor of South Carolina from 1737 to 1744, and was a commissioner under the Church Act. With his younger brothers Burnaby and John Bull, he was a commissioner for the building of Sheldon Church in 1753. He died at Sheldon on March 21, 1755, and his body lies buried here.
