Poe Paddy State Park in central Pennsylvania occupies the former lumber town of Poe Mills, one of the mountain communities created during the state’s timber boom in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Set at the meeting of Big Poe Creek and Penns Creek and enclosed by Poe and Paddy mountains, the area once supported mills powered by a dam on Big Poe Creek and a railroad built to haul timber. During the nineteen thirties, the Civilian Conservation Corps developed the park and helped restore the surrounding cutover forest. Today it is especially known for trout fishing on Penns Creek, along with camping and year-round trail recreation.
