Prospect Mountain in Woodford, Vermont, has been a center of winter recreation since the mid-1930s, evolving from an early rope tow into the Woodford Ski Area and later a mid-sized downhill area with expanded lifts and night skiing. Its high elevation helped sustain reliable natural snow, and over time the mountain shifted toward Nordic skiing. Today it offers more than 35 kilometers of groomed trails, plus snowshoeing and backcountry routes, and serves families, racers, colleges, and local schools. Recent decades have emphasized conservation and community ownership, protecting surrounding wilderness and preserving the mountain as both a recreation site and a conserved landscape.
