Glastenbury Wilderness is a protected backcountry area in southern Vermont within the Green Mountain National Forest, northeast of Bennington. Managed by the U.S. Forest Service, it spans 22,330 acres and is the state’s second-largest wilderness area, after the Breadloaf Wilderness. Established by the New England Wilderness Act of 2006, it is known for a notably hilly landscape with several summits above 2,000 feet. Its high ground centers on Glastenbury Mountain, whose 3,748-foot summit lies just outside the wilderness boundary. The Long Trail, shared here with the Appalachian Trail, runs its full length, and several other trails make it an important protected hiking landscape in Vermont.
