In Milton, the New Hampshire Farm Museum preserves the former Plumer-Jones Farm as a working demonstration farm and historic farmstead that traces three centuries of rural life in the state. Settled in the 1780s by Joseph and Beard Plumer, the property developed into a connected complex that includes Joseph Plumer’s 1782 house, a main block built around 1810 that once served as a tavern, and mid-19th-century barns, including the large Great Barn. Through its buildings, collections, live animals, and demonstrations, the site connects architecture, tools, and landscape to everyday agricultural history. Descendants of the Plumer, Plummer, and Jones families held the farm for generations before its preservation in the 1970s.
