Jonathan Goldsmith, a famed master builder, designed and built this well-proportioned Federal style residence for Dr. John H. Mathews. It is considered one of the finest Goldsmith houses. In 1949, the house was moved from its original North State Street site to its present location on the campus of Lake Erie College.
