Grizzly Peak is a 13,738-foot summit in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, on the Dolores-San Juan county line within San Juan National Forest. Part of the Rocky Mountains, it is the fourth-highest peak in Dolores County and the 126th-highest in Colorado. Its east face rises sharply above Cascade Creek, while its runoff divides between the Dolores River watershed to the west and the Animas River watershed to the east. The mountain’s alpine subarctic climate brings snowy winters, cool to warm summers, and frequent summer thunderstorms, with late July and August monsoons often bringing rain, hail, and lightning. Its name has appeared in print since 1899.
