Built in the 1870s by Marcus Worden, the Green River Covered Bridge carries Green River Road over the Green River in the rural village of Green River in western Guilford, Vermont. Its Town lattice truss reflects Ithiel Town’s patented plank lattice design, and the 105-foot bridge stands on dry-laid stone abutments later capped in concrete. Enclosed with vertical board siding and gabled flushboard ends, it has also been reinforced with laminated floor beams. Because its remote setting has spared it damaging heavy traffic, the bridge and its surrounding landscape of modest 19th-century buildings, an old mill pond, and unpaved roads retain much of their historic character. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
