For veterans, the war is not over when the battles are done but is just beginning. The memorial honors Taylor Morris, a Navy EOD serviceman from Cedar Falls, Iowa, who was injured in Afghanistan, and Gold Star Mothers. It also reflects respect for the flag and country spanning generations, remembers the five Sullivan brothers, World War II sailors serving together on the USS Juneau who were all killed in action when it sank around November 13, 1942, and honors Lt. Robert Hibbs, who attended school at UNI and received the Medal of Honor.
