Hartman Reserve Nature Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa, is a 308.9-acre protected area that combines conservation with environmental education. The largest undisturbed wooded tract in Black Hawk County, it includes wetland, forest, and prairie habitats, mature trees, uncommon flowers, and notable birdlife and other wildlife. The land began as Camp Hartman, a YMCA camp established in 1938 and named for John C. Hartman, who helped fund its purchase. After the YMCA chose to sell in 1976, local support helped secure protection and later expansion. The reserve also includes the Hartman Bluff State Preserve, extensive trails, and facilities that support public learning and recreation.
