Big Springs Lookout Tower
Science & Tech
Big Springs Lookout Tower is a historic fire lookout in the Kaibab National Forest near Big Springs, Arizona. Built in 1934 for the U.S. Forest Service by contractors from Kanab, Utah, the 100-foot steel tower is topped by a small cab used to spot fires across the surrounding forest. A wood-frame cabin near its base, built in 1959, replaced an older log cabin associated with the site. Its listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 recognized its importance in the history of forest fire detection in northern Arizona.
