Bill Hall Trail is a rugged hiking route in Grand Canyon National Park that drops from the remote North Rim at Monument Point to its junction with the Thunder River Trail. Reached by miles of graded dirt forest roads, the trail is known as much for difficult access as for the demanding descent itself. It quickly falls below the rim through steep switchbacks and especially steep stretches in the Coconino Sandstone, with boulders that can require detours, scrambling, or lowering backpacks. Named for seasonal North Rim ranger Bill Hall, who died in an automobile accident in the line of duty in 1979, it remains valued as a direct, strenuous entry into a wilder part of the canyon.
