Slaughter Mountain is a 4,338-foot summit in northern Georgia, ranking as the state’s ninth-highest peak and Union County’s second-highest mountain. Its nearest higher neighbor is Blood Mountain. The name preserves the memory of a bloody battle between the Cherokee and Creek, placing it among southern Appalachian place names that recall earlier conflict. Although its name reflects that violent past, the mountain is now chiefly recognized for its elevation and for its place among Georgia’s highest peaks.
