Middle Cascade Glacier
Nature
Middle Cascade Glacier lies in Washington’s Wenatchee National Forest, north of Spider Mountain and east of Mount Formidable, with the smaller Spider Glacier nearby to the southeast in the same alpine area. A prominent icefall is one of its defining features, but it has been thinning and may eventually divide the glacier’s upper and lower sections. The glacier also underwent measurable retreat, shrinking by 260 meters between 1979 and 2005. Its location, relationship to neighboring glaciers and peaks, and clear recent changes make it a notable example of ongoing glacial evolution in this mountain landscape.
