Mount Cabot, in northern New Hampshire, is the highest peak of the Pilot Range, a smaller chain within the White Mountains, and the northernmost of the Appalachian Mountain Club’s four-thousand footers. Set apart from the main White Mountains by the Israel River valley, it is distinguished by its relative isolation. The mountain is bordered by The Bulge and Terrace Mountain, and its slopes drain west and east into river systems that eventually reach the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound. Named for Sebastian Cabot, it is also recognized on the New England Fifty Finest for its exceptional topographic prominence, ranking fifth in New Hampshire and fourteenth in New England.
