Cooley Covered Bridge, built in 1849 in Pittsford, Vermont, carries Elm Street over Furnace Brook about a mile south of the village center. A single-span Town lattice truss, it is one of four surviving covered bridges in the town and one of the few in Vermont firmly tied to Nicholas M. Powers, the state's best-known covered-bridge builder, who was born nearby. One of only four bridges known to have been built or overseen by Powers, it is a modest one-lane structure with a slate roof and vertical board siding. Though reinforced and altered over time, it remains an important example of Vermont's covered-bridge tradition and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
