Navajo Peak is a 13,409-foot summit on Colorado’s Continental Divide in the Front Range, straddling Boulder and Grand counties within the Indian Peaks Wilderness. One of the area’s highest mountains, it rises steeply above nearby basins and sends runoff toward several watersheds. Its exposed alpine subarctic climate brings snowy winters, summer thunderstorms, and supports the Arikaree Glacier on its southeast slope. Officially named in 1914 and climbed in a recorded early ascent in 1915, it is now a noted climbing destination with routes of varying difficulty. It is also remembered for a 1948 DC-3 crash on its slopes that killed all three crew members.
