Casey State Recreation Site is a day-use Oregon state park on the Rogue River northeast of Medford, valued for picnicking, boating, salmon fishing, and direct river access. It entered public use in the nineteen thirties after Oregon leased the land from the federal government in 1932 and purchased it in 1937. At that time, two residents still held three-year leases because the property had been recognized as federal land rather than private land. One was James Allen Casey, or J.A. "Jack" Casey, who had established Casey's Auto Camp there and believed he had homesteaded the site before its federal status was settled. Civilian Conservation Corps improvements added basic visitor facilities and trails.
