Mount Geikie is a 12,378-foot peak in Wyoming’s Wind River Range, in the remote Bridger Wilderness west of the Continental Divide. Though only 113th among the state’s highest mountains, it is notable for rising sharply above the East Fork River, gaining 2,140 feet in half a mile. Its runoff feeds the Green River system, and its alpine subarctic setting brings snowy winters, cool to warm summers, and year-round precipitation. First climbed in 1890 by surveyor William O. Owen, the mountain later saw notable new routes in the 1970s. It was named in 1900 for Scottish geologist Sir Archibald Geikie.
