Mount Desor, on Isle Royale in Lake Superior, is the highest point in Isle Royale National Park at 1,394 feet and the lake’s third highest peak. The Greenstone Ridge Trail crosses the mountain along the island’s spine, and the summit lies about 8.5 miles from the nearest ferry landing, making it a backcountry destination rather than an easy overlook. Although it is the island’s tallest mountain, its summit is densely wooded and usually provides only limited views. After autumn leaves have fallen, Siskiwit Bay may sometimes be visible to the south. Mount Desor remains a defining natural landmark and a prominent high point along the park’s main hiking trail.
