The New Feldtmann Fire Tower is a historic fire lookout on Feldtmann Ridge in Isle Royale National Park, built after the 1936 Greenstone Ridge Fire led the National Park Service to expand fire detection on the island. Earlier wooden towers on Mount Ojibway and at the old Feldtmann site had deteriorated by the 1950s, and after delays in funding, the old tower was removed in 1963 and the present steel tower was completed in 1965 at a nearby location chosen for better coverage. Abandoned by 1968 as fire management changed, it endures as a reminder of the park’s early wildfire response and its rapid evolution.
