George Dudley Seymour State Park is a 222-acre public recreation area on the east bank of the Connecticut River in Haddam, Connecticut. Its land was once part of Clarkhurst, the estate of George, Henry, and Thomas Clark, Higganum manufacturers of harrows who also tested agricultural equipment there. Henry Clark’s daughter inherited the property in 1921 and hoped to develop it for recreation, but it declined during the Great Depression. After ownership by Marion Gutherie from 1942 to 1960, the state purchased it with support from the George Dudley Seymour Foundation. Named for philanthropist George Dudley Seymour, the park now offers trails and riverside outdoor recreation.
