George F. Johnson built a great industry through his faith in the working man and all humanity. He held that the hope of the world lay in evolution, progress, and constant improvement, and looked with confidence toward a future in which all might have a more equal share in the good things of life, in which the rights of humans would be acknowledged as more sacred than the rights of dollars, and in which vice and crime would be judged the same whether committed in broadcloth or in rags. On July 21, 1919, he declared that mutual confidence between workers and management was the greatest factor underlying business success and urged perseverance in well doing, quoting Gal. 6:9.
