Originally built circa 1893 by Soren L. Petersen as a two story four course wide brick structure, this building was owned and operated as a general store by Petersen and later Ed Jespersen as Jespersen's Mercantile, offering groceries, hardware, dry goods, animal feed, gas, kerosene, and more. It served as the main train stop in Huntsville during the early 1900's and survived a devastating fire in about 1958. Purchased in 1950 by Leon J. Sorensen, it continued as Leon's Market through 2001. The second story was removed in 1964 because of structural concerns. From 2001 through 2016, the Sorensen family leased the building as a meeting house for a community church. It was later restored by the Richard L. Sorensen family and is currently used as the Huntsville Mercantile Events Center and Inn.
