Jerold Lomax, FAIA, designed and built this single family residence for Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rouse in 1973. The structure uses 40-foot and 25-foot-long glue-laminated wood beams supported by eight concrete pillars, a highly innovative technique for the time. Its structural design allows floor-to-ceiling glass windows on three sides of the house and 3-foot clerestory windows on the fourth, taking full advantage of views over the surrounding valley and mountains. The house is an excellent example of Midcentury Modern architecture, known for integrating interior and exterior spaces.
