In January 1807, Choctaw Indians made a hunting expedition from Mississippi to this region under the leadership of Chief Pushmataha. Joseph Bogy, a French trader among the Osages, was camped to the east on the Verdigris River, and his armed men fought Pushmataha's band at the trading camp. The Choctaws routed Bogy's men.
